Many thanks to Adam Mills, with Open dog Torngat Adine; Robert Smallman with Novice, Miss Summer Breeze and Wendy Glue as Novice dog /Novice handler with Incas First Whip for running as Arun and Downlands team at the Southern Inter-club match at Salisbury on 22nd June. The team did really well finishing 3rd out of 16 teams, just 5 points behind the winners. The tests were interesting and challenging set by Dave England on a lovely ground. They required the teams to really work together and discuss which retrieve would best suit each dog and handler. Adam's Open dog was required to pick some very long marks and at one point Robert's Bitch had a hard mark on the water landing during a flush of duck. Wendy, despite being nervous before the event was grateful to her very supportive team members who advised her well, during the day. She, according to the team was instrumental in their good result as she was placed 2nd Novice dog /novice handler on the day and the winning team had the best Novice dog /novice handler. During the run-off for best Open dog, the landowners Golden Retriever jumped his garden fence and gave chase to one of the dogs who continued with his retrieve and returning to handler with the Golden in chase. The judges, Gilly Nickols; Adrian Verinder; Keith Sandercock and Mike Brown, when asked to present a judges choice gave it to .............the Golden Retriever. An enjoyable day was had by all.
